Happy Monday Everyone and Happy Boise Show Week!

TMP is hard at work gearing up for our home show this Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Morrison Center. Before we move on to this crazy week, let’s take a moment and look back at some of the things that happened last week:

1. TMP celebrated the upcoming birth of Baby Solace. Caty and Justin Solace are amazing people and we were all so thrilled to celebrate their joy.

2.We also had a Behind the Scenes look at Trey’s newest work. The photos were taken by Trey who was actually behind the scenes of the Behind the Scenes while John Michael gave a presentation.

3. We celebrated Chanel’s Princess Grace Award with a wonderful party up at the lovely Becky King’s house. Thank you to the Kings, Lonnie Shumsky and Jean Carlson for putting this party together. It was truly special to get to celebrate Chanel.

4. TMP partnered up with the Y and the Idaho Stampede Basketball team for a fun hour with the kids. We set up three basketball stations and three dance stations and fused together a work out for the kids that included both. It was fun and exciting to get to work with the basketball players and the kids. Thank you to the Y for putting this all together.

This post is so long overdue, but never the less:

CONGRATULATIONS to:

Chanel DaSilva

2011 Princess Grace Award Winner for Dance Honoraria

The reason for this post mainly is to congratulate Chanel and also to let her know how much we care about her here at TMP. She is a one of a kind, sweet, brave, gentle and a talented woman. The list could go on and on. We love you Chanel with all of our hearts. Our lives would not be the same if you were not a part of it. We love you!

In the words of the legendary Chanel DaSilva, “Go ahead, I ain’t mad at you!”

My jaunt up times square was enhanced by characters that appeared to beckon my attention, but ultimately they were driven by the need for money, same as any New Yorker. I don’t hand dollars out to beggars in furry costumes, so they were pissed by my unsolicited photos, especially batman, but I snapped my iPhone shutter just the same. Cookie monster smelled weird.

TMP in NYC.

TMP just returned home from a fantastic tour to New York City and Washington DC. While in New York City we did two shows at The Joyce Theater for Focus Dance and one show at the legendary Carnegie Hall with Preservation Hall Jazz Band celebrating their 50th Anniversary. It was one of the most incredible nights. Being apart of this show will forever be in our memories. It was such an honor to be apart of this show with so many amazing musicians and artists. A truly special moment for TMP.

Northern Idaho Bus Tour!

Last weekend TMP hopped in a bus and drove up North to Sandpoint, ID and Pullman, WA. First of all, the drive through Idaho is spectacular. Idaho really is a beautiful state. Following the Payette River for a bit and then driving along side the Salmon River for the rest of the way, we were going in and out of canyons and witnessing the most amazing scenery.

Our show in Sandpoint was great. The crowd was so appreciative that we were there. They recognized that we are from Idaho and were so happy to have us visiting there little town. The theater was very cute and probably one of the smallest stages the company has ever danced on. TMP made it work! Sandpoint is beautiful, but kind of wish we had a little more time to enjoy the area and maybe take a swim in the huge lake nearby.

We stayed in Moscow, ID but our next performance was just across the Washington border in Pullman where Washington State University is located. This theater space was interesting because it was there basketball arena that they build a stage in when dance companies and other performing art acts come through town. Our dressing rooms were the coaches locker rooms and you had to walk all the way across the arena to get to the stage. Walking from the dressing room kind of felt like preparing for a boxing match; mind is focused, costume is ready, water bottle in hand, and dance belt on. The only thing that was missing was an opponent to defeat. Instead of defeating the opponent, we won over the audience. It was a great show.

Bus tours are fun. It is nice every once in a while to not have to worry about the airports and the lines and all that jazz. We get on the bus and away we go.

Trey threw John Michael one of the coolest birthday parties ever at the Linen Building in Boise. It was a gathering of people who love and appreciate John Michael to celebrate his 30th birthday.
Trey flew in one of his good friends Amber Martin who is a comedian living in New York. If you missed this show you missed some funny stuff. Amber is a true genius and put on one heck a show. Check out her YouTube channel AmbyMartin and get ready to laugh.
Thanks for a great party Trey and John Michael.

Looking back…

We recently toured to New Orleans where we performed with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to a sold-out, enthusiastic crowd.  It was my first time in New Orleans and I was so pleased that there was time to see the sights.  I visited Preservation Hall, went to a cemetery, went on a swamp tour, and walked all over the French Quarter.
